Diabetes is often referred to as a national epidemic. However, it’s an insidious one. Of the nearly 21 million believed to have diabetes, nearly one-third do not know it and thus are not treating it.
There are a number of reasons for the increased prevalence of diabetes. First, people have become busier than ever, and unfortunately are neglecting their body’s need for a healthy diet and regular exercise. Without such a healthy lifestyle, more and more people have become overweight and even obese. In fact, more than one-half of Americans are now considered either overweight or obese -- a significant contributor to diabetes.
Just about anyone can improve their health and quality of life by making some simple but effective changes in their daily routine. And, if you have been diagnosed with diabetes, CDS educators can help you lose weight and learn how to control your diabetes.
We invite you to attend one of our American Diabetes Association-recognized courses taught by registered nurses, registered dietitians and certified diabetes educators. You will learn important, easy-to-apply information about better nutrition and the impact of nutrition and medications on your blood sugar levels.
Everyone who attends one of these courses, which are typically paid by Medicare or private insurance, will also receive a free blood sugar meter.
